Your sound. Your style. Your Del-Tone.
At the Del-Tone workshop near Amsterdam, guitars are crafted with passion, precision, and a deep desire to make music tangible. Each instrument is handmade, individually tuned, and finished with dedication, so you can play a one-of-a-kind custom shop instrument that reflects your character and makes every note an experience.
The whole history of Del-Tone
Since its founding in 2020, the two talented guitar builders Alvaro den Hartog and Vincent Sibum have created a new benchmark in high-quality electric guitars at the Del-Tone workshop in Halfweg, near Amsterdam. Under the motto “Custom Guitars,” Del-Tone takes the traditional art of guitar building seriously—and elevates it to a modern, fully customizable level.
The custom shop concept
When they hear the term “custom shop,” many people think of small series or one-off pieces with special options. Del-Tone embodies this very idea: even when selecting tonewoods, the focus is not on quantity, but on care and character. “Hand-picked tonewoods: the foundation of every guitar” is Del-Tone's motto – for example, alder, swamp ash, abachi, or mahogany. Each piece of wood is selected not only for its weight or grain, but also for its sound, resonance, and aesthetics.
Even the necks are made from solid hard rock maple with rosewood fingerboards and 6105 narrow jumbo frets – an uncompromising choice for playing comfort and durability. Modern machines are used in the factory, but a lot of work is also done by hand – the finish is sanded, shaped, and varnished by hand. Details like these clearly place Del-Tone in the custom shop category.
Customization down to the last detail
Of course, a true custom shop experience includes freedom of choice: at Del-Tone, you can choose from models in the T-Style, S-Style, or JM-Style series. Then the design process begins according to the customer's wishes—wood type, neck profile, finish colors, hardware, pickup configuration—everything can be tailored to the individual player. The company produces its own pickups (Apollo pickups), hand-wound in its own studio—another feature of genuine custom shop quality.
The finish also plays a key role: Del-Tone uses historic nitrocellulose lacquers, as these are open-pored and do not “suppress” the sound, as can happen with thick plastic lacquers. “You will hear the difference – even when plugged into an amp,” says Del-Tone.
Once production is complete, each guitar undergoes a final manual setup—adjustment of string action, intonation, and playability testing—before being delivered in a vintage-style case with a certificate. In practice, this means you receive a ready-to-play instrument with the character of a genuine custom shop guitar—but at a comparatively attractive price-performance ratio.
