The whole story of Guild

The Guild brand is known for its commitment to quality and innovation and is one of the most popular guitar brands on the market. Guild guitars are characterized by a warm, full sound that makes them popular with musicians all over the world.

How it all started

In 1952, Alfred Dronge, the owner of a small music store in New York, teamed up with George Mann, former Vice President of Epiphone, to form the Guild Guitar Company. Dronge's passion for jazz music shaped the direction of the company, which initially specialized in the production of hollow-body electric guitars. These guitars, which were perfectly tailored to the needs of jazz musicians, laid the foundation for Guild's reputation as a manufacturer of instruments with outstanding sound and quality.

In the following years, Guild expanded its product range to include acoustic guitars. This move represented a significant expansion of the market and established Guild as a versatile supplier of electric and acoustic guitars. After a relocation, a new era for the company began in the 1960s when the first models of the Starfire and Polara series were launched. These electric guitars, which are characterized by a special variety of sounds and excellent playability, quickly achieved cult status and are still among the most popular models from Guild today.

Through a combination of excellent craftsmanship, innovation and a deep understanding of the needs of musicians, Guild has played a significant role in the history of guitar music since its foundation. The Starfire and Polara models are not only a testament to this tradition, but also a symbol of Guild's continuing influence on the music world.

Well-known Guild fans

Many Guild models, such as the popular Starfire and Polara, the D-40, D-35 and the impressive jumbo model F-40, are firmly anchored in the modern music scene. Numerous renowned artists rely on the unmistakable Guild guitars. These include greats such as Kim Thayil from Soundgarden, Brian May, Sheryl Crow and Tom Petty, who rely on the tonal diversity and quality of Guild. The young, up-and-coming artist beabadoobee is an enthusiastic fan of her Guild M-20 guitar, on which she composes most of her songs.

Even Slash, the guitar legend, is a self-confessed Guild fan. On stage, he impresses with a Guild Double-Neck - a fascinating combination of solidbody electric guitar and semi-acoustic 12-string that adds a unique dimension to his unmistakable sound.

Another special member of the Guild family was Richie Havens, who is considered one of Guild Guitars' most loyal and enduring ambassadors. With his deep commitment to the brand and his unmistakable style, he shaped Guild's image like no other musician. Richie Havens appreciated the robustness, richness of sound and projection of Guild guitars, which suited his intense playing style.

His Guild D-40 guitar, which he played at his legendary performance at the Woodstock Festival in 1969, became particularly famous. The use of the Guild D-40 not only helped him, but also the Guild brand to become better known, as the performance at Woodstock was a milestone in music history. This connection between musician and instrument made Guild guitars even more popular in the folk and rock scene.
