Introducing: Your dream instrument from Fender
All the info to help you decide
After CBS took over in 1965 the Stratocaster underwent several modifications. In 1966 the headstock was enlarged to bring the Stratocaster's appearance more in line with the Jaguar and Jazzmaster. Although the new look took some getting used to, the larger headstock also seemed to counteract the wood-warping issues that occurred with the old design. The design remained unchanged into the 1980s, when the company returned to the smaller headstock. Guitars from this period are rarely copied in the Custom Shop, making this model, based on a 1967 instrument, a true rarity:
The Fender LTD Custom Shop 67 Stratocaster JRN HSS Faded Aged Blue Ice Metallic is a classic ST-style electric guitar with a two-piece alder body. Alder has been used on original Stratocasters since the late 1950s and provides the foundation for the perfect vintage tone. The body wood was hand-selected to ensure an especially light weight and thus improve playing comfort. The aged maple neck with rosewood fretboard is shaped in a '65-style back-shape profile in the spirit of the 1960s and features a 9.5” fretboard radius, offering the perfect compromise between vintage feel and modern comfort and making fretting easier for your left hand. The guitar is fitted with a modern H-S-S pickup configuration consisting of two Fender Custom Shop hand-wound Fat ’64 Strat single coils and a Fender Shawbucker humbucker at the bridge. Other features include Fender vintage-style tuners, white control knobs, a Fender 6-saddle American Vintage Synchronized Tremolo bridge and a tortoise pickguard.
This model is finished in a striking Ice Blue Metallic. The thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish allows the wood to resonate exceptionally well and gives the finish a nicer ageing process. It's all about the look and feel of a guitar that has been loved and played. If you play your instrument often, it's a simple truth that your guitar will eventually show signs of wear. Even players who treat their guitars very carefully can suffer a fall from a stand, someone else's hands or even a mysteriously appearing ding. Each of these marks gives the guitar character. And that's what you get with the Fender Custom Shop Journeyman Relic level: a well-cared-for instrument that has been played and loved.
The Fender LTD Custom Shop 67 Stratocaster JRN HSS Faded Aged Blue Ice Metallic is delivered with a certificate of authenticity in a luxurious original Fender Custom Shop case with brown Tolex and blue interior, allowing you to transport your new dream guitar safely and protect it from external influences.
